As we prayed about locations for Shepherd’s House Bible Church, we eventually landed on Chandler, Arizona. In God’s providence, we already had members of our launch team living in Chandler.

Growing City

It is the 4th largest city in the state of Arizona (behind Phoenix, Tucson, and Mesa), and is rapidly growing. According to worldpopulationreview.com, Chandler hit its highest population in history in 2021, now being home to 269,163 residents. Over the past 3 years, an average of 330 people per month move to Chandler.

Expansive Region

Chandler has a large land area, spanning 65 square miles and neighboring cities like Tempe, Mesa, Gilbert, Ahwatukee, and Queen Creek. Chandler is approximately 20-25 minutes from Phoenix and Scottsdale, allowing the opportunity to reach a wide range of communities in the Valley.

Family & Under 18

The median age of men in Chandler is 35 and women is 37. Over 50% of the households in Chandler are married individuals, and 25% of the entire Chandler population is under 18. This means that families will be a major discipleship focus of The Shepherd’s House.

College Students

Our location will also allow us to launch college campus ministries to Arizona State University and Grand Canyon University since both are in close proximity and house a combine 50,000 + college students. College students will be a major target of The Shepherd’s House as we seek to raise up the next generation for the glory of God.

Senior Citizens

There are nearly 30,000 seniors in Chandler. This represents a large and often neglected population in cities and churches. While we will rightfully prioritize families and raising up the next generation, we know that is spurred on by the wisdom of those who have led the previous generation. Proverbs 16:31 says, “Gray hair is a crown of glory, it is attained along the path of righteousness.” We will not only serve the senior population of Chandler, we will ask mature believers in this population to serve the next generation through their wisdom and godly teaching (Titus 2:3-5).
